Our annual Recital is the culmination of months of hard work, dedication, and artistic growth by our students and staff. It provides our dancers with an opportunity to demonstrate their progress and perform on a professional stage in front of a full audience.

We firmly believe that this confidence boosting experience plays a crucial role in nurturing and encouraging our students' passion for the arts. In order to make the recital a success, we kindly request that you adhere to the following guidelines below.

  • Dancers will go to their change rooms upon arrival. There are different entrances for the competitive, boys and recreational change rooms and all will be clearly labelled. Once in the change room you will need to check in at the door and someone will let you know where to go from there. No men in the girls change rooms please.

  • Dancers 7-18 yrs- If your dancer is dressed in their first costume and ready to go, you may leave them in the change room with their designated volunteer and return to the theatre doors with your ticket. Each volunteer is assigned a group that they are in charge of. They will watch your dancer, organize them and take them upstairs to perform and back downstairs afterward. If your dancer is in multiple routines, you will need to return downstairs (can get to change room quickly by exciting through the door to the left of the stage right from the theatre) and change them, and then again leave them with their designated volunteer and return to the audience. We will have the screen playing the show, crafts, and games downstairs set up to keep the kids occupied. Your volunteer will also have your cellphone number on file in the event of an emergency. If you wish to change the number on file, you may do so upon check in.

    Dancers 6 and under:

We always hear great things about our little ones being inspired by watching part of the show from the audience and getting to see the older dancers perform. Parents have expressed that they were shocked at how long they lasted watching the other routines. Once you have checked in at the dressing room doors upon arrival, you may stay there with your dancer until their time to dance or take them back to the front doors and enter into the audience with your tickets.

There is quick access to the change room by exciting through the door to the left of the stage right in the theatre. We ask that you exit the theatre and have your dancer dressed and ready to go 4 routines before theirs. For example following the Recital schedule if my dancer is in #5, I would bring them to the change room after #1 performs. If they are in another routine, you can change them and repeat the process above.

  • Please complete the check in process at 4pm with everyone else and then return to the audience until 4 routines before. We have no way of knowing what time exactly each routine will go on so it is important that they are present throughout the show.

  • Our finale is at the end of the show and all dancers will return to the stage to bow, celebrate and receive their flowers. We have some exciting things planned to make it a fun and memorable experience! All dancers in the audience must return to the change room for line up. If your dancer is 7-18yrs and is already in the change room, no action is required from you! The kids wear their costume (or if in multiple the last costume they danced in) during the finale.

  • Once the finale/show is finished, the lights will be lifted and all parents of dancers 6&Under are asked to come onto the stage using the side staircases. They will be released by class to their guardian. After the little ones are reunited, all other age groups will be released by class. Once connected with your dancer, you can stay on stage to take photos with teachers and say goodbye if you would like!

  • We will be selling snacks and water but please pack dry snacks and water (nothing that will stain costumes) for your dancers . No food or drink permitted in the theatre unless a sealed beverage such as a water bottle.

  • This season we will be selling Recital souvenirs and Studio 22 merchandise. Cash only.

  • We ask that whenever possible dancers wear something to hide their costumes until after they have performed to keep it a surprise! We have a photo wall being created and designed so there will be plenty of opportunity after the show for pictures!

  • Absolutely no parents backstage unless volunteering. It is very important for us to keep everyone organized and safe and we must limit the number of people backstage.

  • We will be providing a free digital copy of the Recital to all of our dance families. (filmed by a professional company). Anyone seen recording the show will be asked to leave the theatre immediately. I completely understand the desire to capture every moment of their Recital experience but here is why we ask that you put your phone away and let the professional record the routines. Safety: We do not know all that are in attendance at the show and some of our dancers have situations where they can not be filmed or recorded or posted on social media for their safety. We work this out with the professional videographer. Distracting: The kids have worked hard and deserve to perform for an attentive audience. Especially for our little ones, seeing a sea of strangers with cellphones recording them is intimidating and we want them all to have zero distractions during their big moment. We have also had issues where someone recording has blocked the view of a parent of a dancer on stage and they missed out on their child’s moment. Video: We pay for a professional videographer to come in and film the show so that we can have the show documented and see all of the dancers clearly in the video. The videos that he creates are much better quality than a cellphone video taken in the dark with stage lights. Epilepsy- We have some routines without flashing lights to protect our dancers with epilepsy. An accidental cellphone flash could ruin their Recital experience. Please be respectful of this rule and let all of your friends and family in attendance know as well. We will announce it at the beginning of the show too. Thank you!

    1. Only one parent/guardian per dancer in the change room at any given time. We must keep the area as clear as possible.

    2. All volunteers and staff will be wearing a marked lanyard for easy identification.

    3. Please do not exit or enter the theatre during a routine. Please wait for a routine to be finished before leaving for any reason. Keep in mind that the person behind you could be watching their child on stage during any given moment. Please let your guests know too.

    4. Please turn off all cellphone notifications before the show begins.

    5. Please clap and cheer for all routines, they all deserve to feel the love and support from the crowd!

    6. Intermission is 15 minutes long.

    1. No jewellery

    2. No undergarments where possible as the stage lights will show all lines. Clear strap or beige bras for older dancers.

    3. Hair should be hairsprayed slick and pinned with bobby pins securely.

    4. Make up is suggested as the lights will make their expressions harder to see without it.

  • We understand that it is hard for little ones to stay entertained for long periods of time but this show is not run like a piano recital for example. Please if possible, stay for the entirety of the show so that all of the dancers get to perform for a full audience. They deserve to all feel the love equally. With our new programs this season we have cut our show in half so the duration will be much shorter than previous years. We can not predict the exact times of performances and have one check in session at the beginning for all dancers. We also have awards and a final event that we do not want any of our dancers to miss out on at the end!

  • To be fully transparent, the cost of renting a professional theatre, security and videographer alone costs upwards of $20,000. Ticket sales help with these costs but we also rely on sponsors, program ads, etc. to help. We do all that we can to keep costs down and appreciate all of our volunteered help. Things such as medals, flowers, programs, insurance, decor, etc. is all extras that we do to create a special night for our dancers. If you or a business you know of would like to sponsor the studio, please email us at studio22dc@gmail.com for details. All proceeds go towards putting on our show or towards supporting a dancer for the coming season who could otherwise not dance.

  • Dancers’ will have a screen set up in all change rooms to watch the show but if they wish to watch from the front when not dancing/lined up to dance, they must have a ticket. All dancers 6 and under watching from the audience must have a ticket as well.

Costume Fees

Costumes are $101.70 each and payment must be sent via e-transfer to studio22dc@gmail.com.

If your dancer is in two routines for the show, the total due would be $203.40, and so on depending on the number of routines/classes.

All costume fees are due no later than April 24th.

Each season, we face the challenge of dancers outgrowing their costumes before recital, leading to multiple alterations or last-minute reorders, often at a loss to the studio. In addition, the rising cost of costumes, new tariffs, and added customs fees have led us to the decision to purchase all costumes this year from a Toronto-based supplier. While this does limit our selection, it is the most practical and reliable option for this season and explains the later-than-usual ordering.

As a result, we will only be purchasing costumes that have been paid for by the deadline. Unfortunately, we will not be able to place additional or late orders.

from our waivers signed upon registering:

Recital Participation: As part of our commitment to delivering a memorable recital, all enrolled dancers agree to a non-refundable costume fee of $90.00 +HST per class. Tights and shoes (typically the same as the ones required in the dress code) are not provided. We do not charge a "Recital Fee" to cover costs, so we rely on our ticket sales to put on the show. Tickets are typically between $25-$30 each. Our show is professionally filmed and we gift this video to our families each season (typically available/sent out 3 weeks post show).
